From coast to mountains: wildlife in every region

The United States’ diverse landscapes are home to an incredible range of wildlife. In the northern Rocky Mountains around Yellowstone and Grand Teton, bison, pronghorns, grizzly bears and wolves roam among towering peaks and steaming geothermal fields. Along the Pacific coast in Oregon and Washington, you may spot sea lions, otters and seabirds, while whales pass close to shore during migration season. California’s coast is known for elephant seals and dolphins, and the forests of Washington and Montana shelter elk, black bears and eagles. In the Southwest, coyotes, roadrunners and other desert wildlife thrive among red rock formations and rugged canyons.
