We've also seen for ourselves just how dramatically the weather varies between regions, from Alaska’s icy peaks to California’s golden shores. The United States is made for road trips, with some of the world’s most iconic and scenic drives. Once you leave the major cities, the roads open up and traffic quickly thins out, giving you plenty of space to enjoy the journey.
We recommend travelling by car or 4WD. It gives you the freedom to turn off onto the smaller roads, stop whenever something catches your eye, and reach the quiet, secluded corners a motorhome simply can't get to.
And you won't be figuring it out alone. We'll help you choose the vehicle that suits your travel style, plan your route around the driving distances that feel comfortable to you, and take care of all the logistics behind the scenes, so all that's left for you to do is embrace the road ahead.

Whether you dream of star-filled skies in the desert, live music in the Deep South, or sailing beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, we’ll design a journey that reflects your interests, pace, and sense of adventure.

Every memorable journey begins with the right preparation. Our travel specialists have compiled all the essential information you need to ensure your USA holiday runs smoothly from start to finish.
Here are some of the key things to know:
Passport: A valid British passport is required.
Visa: British citizens usually need an ESTA.
Currency: United States dollar (USD), credit and debit cards widely accepted.
Driving: on the right-hand side of the road.
Power: The USA uses type A/B plug (110V), so bring an adapter.
The USA spans 3.8 million square miles, with 50 states and an impressive 10,000 inhabited islands. Each region is distinct with its own character and awe-inspiring nature.
Many of our customised holidays to the United States combine several regions, allowing you to journey from desert canyons to mountain peaks and tropical shores to vibrant cities, all in one seamless itinerary.
Mountain West: Defined by dramatic landscapes and wide-open spaces, the Mountain West is home to the Rockies, Yellowstone, and the Grand Tetons. Discover alpine lakes, wildlife-filled valleys, and frontier towns where cowboy culture and wilderness meet.
Southwest: A region of red rock canyons and sun-drenched deserts, the Southwest is where adventure and spirituality intertwine. Journey through Arizona and Utah’s national parks, from Monument Valley to Zion, and discover Native American heritage along the way.

American Northwest: Lush, green, and full of character, the Northwest blends natural beauty with creative energy. Explore Washington’s volcanic peaks, Oregon’s rugged coastline, Portland’s lively neighbourhoods, and the wild landscapes of the Olympic Peninsula.
New England: Steeped in history and coastal charm, New England pairs storybook towns with wild Atlantic landscapes, from Vermont’s forested mountains to Maine’s rugged, lighthouse-lined coast.
Northeast: The Northeast offers everything from the bright lights of New York City to the charm of New England’s coastal villages. Visit Boston’s revolutionary landmarks, enjoy autumnal drives, and sample fresh seafood along the Atlantic coast.
Deep South: Rich in culture and history, the Deep South moves to the rhythm of blues, jazz, and Southern hospitality. Explore New Orleans and Nashville, wander oak-lined streets in Savannah, and discover bayous, plantations, and timeless small towns.
Alaska: Untamed and breathtaking, Alaska is a wilderness like no other. Cruise past glaciers in Kenai Fjords National Park, spot bears and whales in their natural habitat, and experience the midnight sun over snow-capped peaks.
Hawaii: A tropical paradise of volcanoes, rainforests, and golden beaches, Hawaii blends stunning scenery with a rich Polynesian culture. Hike through lush valleys, snorkel over coral reefs, and feel the aloha spirit in every welcome.

Few places in the world offer the same diversity of landscapes, cultures, and experiences as the USA. Here’s what makes it so extraordinary:
Endless variety: From national parks and desert canyons to tropical islands and world-class cities, the USA has it all.
Iconic experiences: Walk through NYC's Central Park, stand on the rim of the Grand Canyon, or drive the legendary Route 66.
Rich culture: Uncover the roots of jazz and blues, discover Native American heritage, and enjoy thriving art scenes.
Majestic wildlife: Watch herds of grazing bison, grizzly bears fishing for salmon, and orcas hunting.
Freedom to explore: Excellent roads, scenic byways, and regional airports make getting around easy and rewarding.
Experiences for everyone: Whether you dream of exploring Alaska’s glaciers, cycling through New England’s fall foliage, or unwinding on a sun-drenched beach, you'll be spoilt for choice.
For most travellers, we would suggest at least two to three weeks in the USA, this gives you time to explore one or two different regions on a relaxed road trip. A good rule of thumb is to stay two or three nights per stop and limit one-night stays. A three- to four-week holiday gives you more time to slow down, connect with the locals, and soak in the beauty of each location.
Our favourite times to visit the USA are usually May to June and September to October, when many regions have milder weather, fewer visitors and better value than July and August. Summer is excellent for hiking, kayaking and national parks, but expect more crowds, higher prices, and the need to plan everything well in advance.
