When is the best travel time?

Canada is a beautifully diverse country that is great for travel at any time of the year. Every season offers a new adventure, and each region has a unique personality of its own. Spring brings maple syrup season and raging waterfalls as the landscape turns green. Summer is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. You'll never see brighter crimson leaves than in autumn, and Canada is the true north for winter lovers.

Do you want to relax on the beach? Go skiing? Explore the cities? Encounter unique wildlife? Walk through fields of endless wildflowers? The options are endless. Based on your family's interests and availability, we can advise you on the best time to travel. Do you need to book around work and school schedules? We've got you covered on that, too. How long do we need in Canada?

Canada is the second largest country in the world. You could spend months travelling the ever-changing landscape and not see the same place twice. For your holiday, the question becomes, "How long do we have together?". The more time you have, the more great things you can see at a relaxed pace. We highly recommend travelling slower as a family - stay in each place for two to five nights, drive less, and explore more. No need to rush from highlight to highlight.

To truly experience the essence of Canada, we recommend travelling at a relaxed pace for a minimum of three weeks. Or, if you have slightly less time, you can visit a few places in-depth and come back again one day.

What can we see and do?

With the diversity of Canada, you can see and do just about anything your family desires - from kayaking through giant fjords, to spotting whales and orcas, and trekking through subarctic worlds of ice or temperate rainforests. Experience the Canadian Wild West in the most fitting way possible - on horseback with a cowboy cookout lunch. Hop on a sea plane and journey along the historic mail route between Gold River and Kyuquot. Cast a line with a local to catch a giant sturgeon or a jumping salmon for dinner.

Your options are endless, with family-friendly private or small-group local activities, ranging from easy-going to adventurous. Let us know your interests and discover what is best for you. We can schedule all your activities and take care of every detail, so you just have to show up and have fun.

Where can we stay?

Trust us, you don't want to spend your holiday in a stuffy hotel room with cheap wooden furniture and mass-produced paisley carpets. We know the places you're envisioning, because they are our vision too. A unique spot to experience the natural wonders of Canada. A place that feels welcoming; like home. Where you can truly unwind while the kids explore. Staying in small-scale accommodations with multiple bedrooms, local hosts and renowned Canadian hospitality is the greatest way to see Canada as a family.

From a riverfront lodge in Chilliwack to a secluded retreat on the Sunshine Coast, experience what these unique places have in store for you. Click below to get a glimpse of the best accommodations for families, from comfortable to luxurious.

How do we travel around?

From coastal roads, to panoramic mountain passes, and awe-inspiring glacier landscapes, Canada is best explored by car or SUV. The roads are safe and the views from your car are often magnificent.

Driving your family in a roomy vehicle means you're able to reach places that group trips and public transport cannot. You can go at your own pace and stop when necessary. With only a short distance between each location, you'll have more time to relax and explore, which is what you should be doing on your holiday.

Flying to Canada

Canada isn't that far away. A direct flight takes approximately eight hours to the East Coast and ten hours to the West Coast. With a stopover, the flight time fluctuates between 11 and 14 hours. Your holiday begins as soon as you board your flight, so a comfortable journey makes all the difference.

Travelling to Canada with children may seem as though it's a bit of a mission. But it isn’t. At Little America, we can organise a relaxed travel schedule with comfortable flying times. Are you flying with a baby? Would you like to sit together as a family or in two rows? Or would you prefer first-class flights with extra privacy?

No matter which class you fly, our hard work and connections with airlines ensure you the best flight schedule, the most spacious seats in each class, a private HD display, delicious food and drinks for the journey, and of course, the best price. All of your flights are carbon neutral.
