Before you travel

ESTA

Citizens of the UK can enter the United States for business or tourism without a visa for a stay of up to 90 days (Visa Waiver Program). Just as before the pandemic, an electronic entry permit (ESTA) must have been applied for and approved before departure. More information on how to apply for an ESTA is below. The application is quick, you can fill in an application easily online, but must be done prior to travel.

Enter visa-free with ESTA

ESTA is the Electronic Travel Authorisation for leisure, business and transit travellers entering the United States by sea or air for a stay of 90 days or less. The ESTA can be applied for by travellers from the United Kingdom and enables visa-free entry into the United States.

You can apply for the ESTA electronic entry permit here.

For visa-free entry

  • You need an electronic passport (e-passport).

  • You must hold a passport that is valid at least until the time you plan to leave the United States.

  • In the case of families, each member, including infants and children, must have their own passport and ESTA.

The ESTA

  • Must be requested at least 72 hours prior to departure. (Approvals are no longer possible in real time). Without a valid ESTA you will be denied boarding.

  • Is valid for up to two years or until the expiry date of the passport, whichever comes first.

  • Is valid for multiple entries into the United States.

  • Allows you to stay in the US for up to 90 days.

  • Costs $14.
