When is the best time to travel to the USA?

We know that families with school-age children often travel during the UK summer holidays. Fortunately, America’s size and variety mean there are wonderful places to visit throughout the year. Each season brings something different, and every region has its own character.
Your travel specialist will take the time to understand what your family enjoys, when you’d like to travel and the kind of experience you’re looking for. From there, we’ll recommend the best time to go and the regions that suit you.
For family holidays, we usually recommend booking around 9 to 12 months in advance. This gives you the best choice of places to stay and often the best value too. Planning something sooner? We can still help create a memorable journey.
How do we travel around the United States?
From winding coastal roads and sweeping mountain passes to vast desert landscapes, the USA is made for road trips. Travelling by car gives your family the freedom to explore at your own pace, stop whenever something catches your eye and reach places that larger tours and motorhomes often miss.
For families, we usually recommend a spacious SUV, giving everyone plenty of room to relax and enough space for your luggage. Our carefully selected hire cars come with air conditioning, a navigation system, full insurance and low fuel costs. Baby seats and booster seats can also be arranged in advance.
We’ll plan a comfortable route with manageable driving times, usually no more than a couple of hours between stops. The roads are generally easy to navigate, and the ever-changing views make the journey part of the experience.
Drive less, see more
Family holidays are far more enjoyable when there’s no need to rush. We recommend spending two to five nights in each place, giving you time to settle in, explore properly and enjoy a slower pace together.
Rather than racing from one highlight to the next, you’ll have more time for spontaneous stops, relaxed mornings and the moments that often become your favourite memories.
